About: ALIVE is an applied research project that aims to make it possible to create immersive Virtual Reality experiences that use live action video, by using lightfield capture technology to give a much more realistic appearance and sense of immersion than is currently possible.
The project will result in new algorithms and methods, incorporated in advanced software prototypes and demonstrated in a short experimental production. We will develop new ways of accurately tracking moving multi-camera lightfield rigs; representing, editing, post-producing and streaming immersive light-fields; and rendering the results as free-viewpoint video with true parallax to support viewer head movement, in real time, to consumer headsets.
The project consortium is made up of a leading medium-sized visual effects software developer (The Foundry), an SME creative production company specialising in VR experiences (Figment Productions) and a leading research centre specialising in multi-view data capture and processing (University of Surrey).
My Role: Visual effects supervisor and Nuke/CaraVR compositor.

About: This audio-visual experience, situated in the Watergate Tower of Warwick Castle, educates visitors about the history of the castle. We filmed more than 30 actors and three ravens in Figment's in-house green-screen studio to help tell this epic story.
A projection mapped model of the castle accompanies the visuals in room two of the experience and is used to demonstrate the castle’s evolution. The final room contains a wall of talking portraits of the famous faces who owned the castle through its colourful history.
My Role: Working in-house at Figment Productions, my roles included location shooting, on-set VFX supervision, 3D animation, tracking and compositing. Key sequences I was responsible for included castle deconstructions, characters aging & disintegrating and a 12th Century castle siege involving hundreds of soldiers.

My Role: I was responsible for the majority of the 3D animation, lighting, rendering & compositing.
About: Initially aired during the 2010 NFL Super bowl, this commercial for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter featured totally immersive CGI that lets viewers feel like they are actually riding a broomstick through Hogwarts with Harry Potter himself! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in late Spring 2010 in the Islands of Adventure theme park at the Universal Studios Orlando Resort.
My Role: Matchmove, keying, compositing, CG people. I also contributed to some of the texturing and lighting set-ups.

My Role: I was originally commissioned to write a six-page tutorial (Creating a flexible stereoscopic 3D rig in After Effects) for the December 2009 issue. Off the back of that, I was offered a role answering readers questions in the monthly 'Q&A' section of the magazine. This would entail:
• Choosing a relevant question sent in by a reader or from the 3D World forums. • Writing a half page, 400 word article that answered the readers question. • Creation of all assets required to follow along with the tutorial. • Recording a video tutorial to be included on a CD accompanying the magazine.
I also wrote a six issue 'Render Pass Fundamentals' series, consisting of monthly full page articles, renders and video tutorial.
